Is Brand Dead? 💀 Our Response to Prof G

Is the age of branding over?

Have online reviews replaced traditional advertising?

Should all your marketing energy and capital be reinvested into product quality and supply chain?

Scott Galloway  is a clinical professor of marketing at the New York University Stern School of Business and the host of the popular podcast “Prof G Pod”. You can find him on YouTube making some pretty bold claims… like these ones:

"The sun has past midday on traditional brand. Don Draper has been drawn and quartered. This notion you can have a mediocre product and instill it with great emotion and just sell a lot of it–that's done. That's over. What the companies that have added over a hundred billion dollar in value in the last decade have in common is they don't advertise. The CMOS and marketers all love to be nostalgic and say oh advertising is coming back we give each other awards every day there's less and less oxygen in the room."

Now, to be transparent – we’re big fans of Prof G over here. Raj even attended one of his branding masterclasses a few years back. But that doesn’t mean Scott is immune to our nuance and critique.

Check out the latest episode of Growing a Fruitful brand entitled “Is Brand Dead?” where Raj and I have an honest reaction to some of his hot takes about the state of branding, marketing, and advertising.
